Where did 14 years go ? Tonight we celebrate the 14th Anniversary of the 400m win by Cathy Freeman. The feeling was electric and so was the performance, what an athlete and what a star.

Spirit of Sydney celebrated the 14th Anniversary of the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games on board the historic South Steyne ferry moored in Sydney’s Darling Harbour.
Our team was thrilled to hear about the Rio 2016 Games update and especially the recently launched Volunteer program.
After 14 years we’re still going strong.
Rio 2016 has announced details of its ticket pricing strategy for the Olympic Games, and insisted that more than half of the 7.5 million tickets available will be priced at R70 (€24/$31) or less in a bid to ensure the event is “open to everyone.”

Rosemary Mula has been busy in Brasil with he Volunteer Program getting underway in late August.
These are photos from the day when she went to the Favela (Rio’s poor neighbourhoods) to encourage people there to become 2016 volunteers.
Rosemary actually did the required blood pressure test and then joined the exercise group…..before the speeches.
Another milestone has been reached in the preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games with the commencement of volunteer recruitment.
Spirit of Sydney member, Rosemary Mula, has been on local television in Brasil and involved in the Volunteer Program launch.
Local television covered the event and ran a story on the program.
Flavia Fontes, is the volunteer program manager and is very excited about the program. Like in Sydney, the volunteers will make the games and will bring much pride to the city and country.

The Spirit of Sydney Volunteers Group recently held another successful lunch at Sydney’s Darling Harbour on board the historic South Steyne ferry.
We were privileged to host Australian Paralympian Liesel Tesch AM who has represented Australia in Basketball and Sailing at six consecutive Paralympic Games.
Liesel spoke of her triumphs and struggles she experienced on her way to Bronze, Silver (Basketball) and Gold (Sailing) medals at the games.
After an excellent lunch served by the friendly staff on board the South Steyne Ferry Function Centre, the Spirit of Sydney Group assembled for a team photo with Liesel who happened to be celebrating her birthday the same day. Congratulations Liesel and HAPPY BIRTHDAY !
